The Power of Metal

The Power of Metal

Have you ever thought about freezing a part of your body for eternity?

I will tell you a story, a real story that happened to me recently and you will answer again if you think this is a good idea for you to consider in the close future.
This story started with a phone call. A regular customer who needed desperately my help to come up with a gift for her. She wanted a necklace to give out to their friends, three brothers, who were grieving their father's last days, and wanted to give them something meaningful for their remembrance.
She needed the necklaces urgently as the father didn't have more days to live and wanted them straight away. As a result of that conversation, we came up with having their fingerprints imprinted on the metal, on one side, a son, and on the other side, their dad's fingerprint.
The process of making that pendant real was very delicate and hard to achieve. As in those moments, you are not considering having a necklace done or anything for you as you are grieving your father's death. Therefore, my customer had to explain to them how to make this pendant come true. It was the following; They had to warm the wax gently to make it flexible to touch and form a ball. When the ball was ready and warm enough to squeeze, they had to grab their father's hand and press on his finger, finger to finger, to achieve the imprint with both fingers and transfer the lines to the wax.
In this case, their father died and when they all were in the hospital saying their last goodbyes, they made a little ritual, holding hands between each brother and they managed to get a hold of his fingers and made the pendant.
It was a beautiful way to make closure, let go, and connect for the last time.

This story shook me up. You are never prepared to say goodbye to your parents or think about those things because that is the least of the things you want when you are growing old. You are never prepared to say goodbye to your loved ones.
But why wait until the last minute? Why won't you want to have the fingerprints of your loved ones to carry every day, even though they are still here with us?
I will not. This story has made me realize that if I wanted a jewellery piece that commemorates my beloved family, I would want their fingerprints done today, so I could print a perfect sample of my family's imprint, a true version of themselves, to carry with me always.
